Peter has over 20 years of experience on a variety of architectural project types and systems including higher education, commercial, single family, galleries, federal buildings, product development, furniture making, prefabrication and estimating automation.
After receiving a BA in Music as an undergrad, Peter decided to switch to Architecture and attend the University of Washington graduate program where he received a Faculty Medal for studio work and the Thesis Prize.
During the last five years with Katerra, Peter's focus has been on Building Platform Development, R&D and technology. He has led a cross-disciplinary team of architects, structural and mechanical engineers, product development, manufacturing process engineers, and construction teams who are developing Katerra's flagship multi-family building systems. He has also managed work to integrate automated estimating through design and preconstruction.
Peter spent over ten years with the Miller Hull Partnership where he worked on the Cascadia Community College Arts Building (LEED Platinum), 333 Dexter 12-story commercial towers in Seattle, the Gould Hall Gallery at the University of Washington (2015 Seattle AIA Merit Award) and the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry Expansion and Reconfiguration (LEED Platinum, 2016 GSA Design Award). The border crossing at San Ysidro – between Tijuana and San Diego – is the busiest land crossing in the western hemisphere and the $480 million project is spread over 3 major phases and 10 years of design and construction. Peter contributed to the project as a designer, project/technical architect and project manager where he led a team of15 architects and 14 consultant teams through the third phase of design and construction.
Peter’s residential work includes supporting projects with Suyama Peterson Deguchi, custom cabins with MillerHull, and several custom homes in the Rocky Mountain region. Peter has a passion for craft, both through woodworking, construction and design-build projects. He believes in collaboration and is continually striving to learn and improve his work.
Peter tackles all aspects of building development from design through construction - from management to design to coordinating different disciplines he enjoys solving complex problems of any scale. While not working, Peter enjoys the outdoors, skiing, spending time with his wife and two daughters and making furniture in his workshop on Bainbridge Island, WA.
